Ex Machina Caleb, a 24 year old coder at the world's largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company.
But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world's first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl.
EX MACHINA is an intense psychological thriller, played out in a love triangle. It explores big ideas about the nature of consciousness, emotion, sexuality, truth and lies.


  • Screenplay

    To be fair, the cover art on the ITMS does say “Screenplay by Alex Garland,” so it probably isn’t reasonable to expect this to be a novel. The movie is brilliant, though, so perhaps the screenplay offers something of interest to would-be screenwriters. Certainly almost everyone who’s put something on the big screen in the last couple years could have learned something from it.

    This is NOT a book! It's a screenplay. Very disappointed. And I write screenplays, but they are not the best reads, for sure.
